ORLANDO, Fla. – In a program first the RUSH Field Hockey organization debuted an under-16 team on the national stage with a performance that any veteran team would be proud of.
The group of girls selected from throughout San Diego County competed in the 2015 annual Disney Field Hockey Showcase held in Orlando, Florida.
Playing together for the first time, RUSH’s youngest travel team defeated nationally ranked opponents thus launching them from an un-ranked newcomer into national recognition.
Inside the ESPN World Wide sports facility, RUSH under-16 took down four of their five opponents, all of whom were from the Midwest and field hockey powerhouse areas of the East. In just those four wins alone, RUSH racked up seven goals and allowed just one against. Their three shutouts and tournament run to their bracket quarterfinal took place with nearly 250 college coaches in attendance.
From the beginning RUSH was tested with day one match ups against two high ranking clubs in the country.
With strong passing and big saves, RUSH picked up their first win against club FH Life (No. 37) with an insurance goal to seal the game at (2-1). Their win was a testament to the team’s resilience after coming up just short earlier in the day against the nationally top rated WC Eagles (0-2).
By the end of day two RUSH had extended their winning streak to three. RUSH defeated WCUFHA (1-0) and later shutout the The Greene Turtles (No.72) with two goals for their third win and second shutout of the tournament.
In the final day of the tournament RUSH just missed upsetting the WC Eagles in a rematch, but overthrew their next highest rated opponent in the tournament. With two second half goals, RUSH toppled the No. 12 ranked New Heights club (2-0) to add another shutout and win to finish off the tournament.

SAN DIEGO -- Some dream about competing on the college field hockey stage, but for a group of talented student-athletes it is now a fast approaching reality.
Seven RUSH girls will go on to play college field hockey this year, with six of them signing National Letters of Intent this winter.
NLI are contracts between a student-athlete and institution confirming athletic scholarship money once they are admitted to the school. It also marks an end to that lengthy recruiting process. NLI also come with a letter detailing the athletic scholarship awarded for their first full academic year to be signed by the athlete as well.
Each year the girls will sign a contract re-confirming their athletic scholarship and any additional scholarship money awarded for the upcoming academic year. Each Division I Field Hockey program is given 12 full scholarships. Division II programs are given about six. Because NCAA Field Hockey is an equivalency sport, this means schools can divvy up their (12 or 6) scholarships however they want to the girls.
The average college field hockey roster holds 23 players. However, some teams carry a smaller roster to be able to offer more scholarship money to players.
Division III and club teams cannot provide athletic scholarships, but often help athletes find other available scholarships to apply for.

MOORPARK, Calif. -- For the second straight year, RUSH Field Hockey won the 2nd Annual Moorpark Hockey 5 Christmas Classic tournament held in early January. But this time around, one championship win was not enough to sum up this year's tournament success.
In last year's tournament hosted at the Moorpark Hockey Center, RUSH field hockey won the inaugural crown over the Mexican Men's National under-18 team, after previously falling to them in round-robin play. But this year's championship showdown welcomed back RUSH and a different 'foe,' but still all too familiar. RUSH vs. RUSH.
RUSH Field Hockey entered five teams in this year's hockey five tournament: three under-19 teams and two under-16 teams, all of which took the top spots in their divisions. So that meant not only did the under-19 division championship host a RUSH vs. RUSH final, but our two RUSH under-16 teams battled for 1st and 2nd place as well.
However, a clean under-19 sweep looked questionable with RUSH trailing two goals against the Lady Red Devils in the battle for 3rd place. In the final 15-minute period of play, RUSH fought their way back to even the score at four goals a piece. As the clock winded down and the score remained tied, it was with less than ten seconds to spare that RUSH capitalized on a cross to the far left post to seal the win in a comeback fashion.
Other tournament teams, some of which were co-ed, were from Ventura County and the surrounding area.
Moorpark Hockey 5 games are played on half a pitch of artificial turf, enclosed with wooden rebound rails to keep the ball in play and create a fast, flowing and exciting game. Four field players and a goalkeeper compete for three 15-minute periods with two minute breaks in between. Unlike indoor field hockey, players can hit the ball, use 3D skills and can shoot to score from anywhere.
