Chelsea Yogerst
goes to British Columbia...

Chelsea is one of three high school players (the others are from New Jersey and Colorado) chosen to represent the United States at the World Youth Hockey Promotion Festival in Victoria, British Columbia, April 27-May 3. She was chosen on the bases of both her participation in the USFHA Futures program and her essay on the topic of "How to Get More Men and Boys Involved in Field Hockey in the U.S."
The festival includes high school hockey players from 20 different countries including traditional hockey powers like the Netherlands, Argentina and Germany, as well as Uganda, Trinidad, South Africa, Poland, New Zealand, Scotland, Ireland, Thailand, India and many others.
In addition to discussing how to give field hockey are higher profile around the world, the athletes will attend seminars in event planning, communications and marketing, coaching and umpiring. The players will also play in daily 5v5 games under the direction of international coaches and attend games of the Summer Olympics Qualifying Tournament which is taking place in Victoria at the same time. |
